    EPFD completed acquisition of the property on which the district will build the current Station 2 at Meko Drive in Camp Connell.

    Old Gulch Fire Contained

    100% containment declared at 6pm. Gov. Pete Wilson declares a state of emergency in Calaveras County. Fire crews are released to other fires across the state. 18,000 acres have burned. 3,600 firefighters are still on scene.

    A firebreak is maintained at Hathaway Pines. Fire in Lakemont and Meadowmont are quenched. Fire is 80% contained. 17,000 acres have burned. 3,900 firefighters are on scene.

    Old Gulch Fire Day 3

    Fire headed towards Murphys and Avery. Residents are evacuated. A second evacuation center is opened in Sonora. 11,000 acres have burned and  2,300 firefighters are on scene.

    Old Gulch Fire Day 2

    Fire burned 15,000 acres and 16 buildings. Communities of Sheep Ranch and Cave City are evacuated to Angels Camp. 2,300 firefighters are on the scene.

    Old Gultch Fire Starts

    Wildfire began at approximately 5:03 pm 226 degrees from Blue Mountain. By morning 1,200 acres have burned and more than 1,000 firefighters are on scene.

    The possibility of combining the fire districts was researched and seriously debated over the course of the next few years. The proposed merger failed to gain the necessary support to be completed and the project was abandoned in 1991.

    Community Fire Prevention Programs Started in 1979 are Beginning to Show Results

    In the late 1970’s,  EPFD in conjunction with the CA Dept. of Forestry, began community programs aimed at educating our community regarding fire safety within the home as well as in regards to living in a forested area.

      Burn Permits are Available at EPFD for the First Time

      Burn permits were first required in 1965 according to Public Resource Code 4423. In 1980 EPFD partnered with the California Department of Forestry to offer another resource for residents to obtain burn permits.
