After 1950 a fire engine was available in the area, however the engine was stored on a floating basis at various volunteers’ homes. Phone calls would need to be made to the individual volunteers in order to find out where the engine was located before volunteers could respond to the fire.
During this time period, six volunteers would respond to fires in the community with a 50 gallon drum with an attached outboard motor and a simple garden hose to direct water into the blaze.
